Description:
Louis XVI Style Center Desk – Neoclassical Manufacture from Southern Italy Historical-Artistic Description Refined center desk (bureau plat) from the full Neoclassical period (Louis XVI style), attributable to the cabinetmaking of Southern Italy (Neapolitan or Sicilian area) from the late 18th century. The piece of furniture features the typical architectural and rigorous structure of the period, resting on four truncated pyramid legs that enhance its silhouette. The front frieze is adorned with a central open compartment flanked by four lateral drawers (two on each side) and a larger central drawer. The most valuable element is the inlay and veneer work (marquetry) in various precious woods (boxwood, rosewood, bois de rose). The top surface, finished with a double geometric perimeter frame, features a large quatrefoil lozenge sunburst in the center, which is also repeated with great perspectival coherence on the sides.
