Sculpture bed by Arnaldo Pomodoro for Ovale Borsani

Bed by Arnaldo Pomodoro for Borsani Sculptural brass headboard. In the 1960s, the artist Arnaldo Pomodoro designed a series of limited edition beds for Osvaldo Borsani's workshop. It is not a simple bed but a true sculpture created to ennoble a simple and common piece of furniture. Arnaldo Pomodoro was a great Italian sculptor and goldsmith who passed away in 2025. In 1954, he moved to Milan and, along with Lucio Fontana, was part of the informal artist group called "Continuità". His works can be found as monuments in major Italian cities and in numerous international cities. Osvaldo Borsani was born in Varedo, where his father owned a furniture company, L'Atelier di Varedo. He obtained his artistic maturity diploma and then graduated in Architecture in 1937 from the Politecnico di Milano. Throughout his career, he was a designer of buildings and designer furniture. He continued the family business, Arredamenti Borsani Varedo, and in 1953, together with his brother, he founded Tecno, a synthesis of artisanal experience for larger-scale production. The bed has no defects or breaks; the brass parts can be polished upon request. The lacquered metal uprights show slight signs of age, visible in the photos.
