Follower of Raphael Sanzio (Urbino 1483 - Rome 1520) - Portrait of Bindo Altoviti.
60.5 x 45 cm.
Oil on panel, unframed.
The work is a copy of the painting by Raphael Sanzio (Urbino 1483 - Rome 1520) preserved at the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
The Portrait of Bindo Altoviti, a Florentine banker and Renaissance patron, is among Raphael's most celebrated works from his Roman period, dating to around 1515 and mentioned by Vasari in his Lives. The young man is depicted three-quarter length, with his head turned towards the viewer, blond, long hair, a black cap, and a dark cloak against a dark green background. His left hand placed on his shoulder completes the figure naturally. This is a high-quality 19th-century copy, faithfully reproducing the composition of the original with accurate rendering of flesh tones and drapery.
