Neoclassical lacquered wood bench, Piedmont, late 18th century
Description:
Neoclassical lacquered wood bench, Piedmont, late 18th century Dimensions: cm W 133 x D 43 x H 52 Price: private negotiation Item accompanied by our certificate of authenticity. This elegant bench was made in Piedmont around the end of the 18th century, during the Neoclassical period. The rectangular seat is upholstered in bottle green velvet fabric in good condition. The wooden structure is carved and lacquered in shades of cream and blue-gray. The frieze beneath the seat is carved on three sides to be placed against a wall or a piece of furniture. Bordered on three sides by a cream lacquered reserve, with a central blue-gray frieze in recessed work, at the center and near the corners it is decorated with quadrangular elements centered by a circular bas-relief detail lacquered in cream. The six legs originate from a circular capital and a concave element in blue-gray lacquer; the inverted truncated cone shaft lacquered in blue-gray is adorned with carvings in the form of cream lacquered acanthus leaves and, at the bottom, with cream lacquer fluting. This bench is very refined, accurate in the combination of lacquer colors and carvings. Although designed to be preferably placed against a wall, at the foot of a bed, behind a sofa, in entrances and corridors, as well as in a living room, it can also be used as a central piece as the fourth side is also lacquered. We note that one leg is slightly curved.
