CYLINDER MUSIC BOX - FRANCE - 19TH CENTURY
Description:
Technical Sheet: Antique Cylinder Music Box General Description Elegant cylinder music box of 19th-century craftsmanship, characterized by solid and refined construction. The instrument is housed within a rectangular walnut box, embellished on the lid with valuable polychrome inlay. The central motif, executed with extreme technical skill, depicts a musical trophy composed of an open score, wind instruments, and stylized floral elements, all framed by geometric banding that enhances its symmetry. Construction and Mechanical Features Case: Wooden structure with a glossy external finish; the interior features a contrasting dark lacquer that insulates the mechanical movement. The lid is hinged with robust brass components. Mechanism: The heart of the instrument consists of a brass cylinder mounted horizontally, whose profile is densely studded with pins (spikes) for reading the melodies. Comb: The tempered steel comb features a series of precisely aligned harmonic teeth, fixed to the base with flat-head screws, ensuring clear and defined resonance. Protection System: The mechanism is protected by an internal glass cover that allows direct viewing of the movement while safeguarding it from dust and external agents, a detail that denotes the object's high construction quality. Controls: On the external side, control pins are visible for managing the movement (start/stop and selection), consistent with the type of table music box from the period. Condition: The object shows a patina consistent with its age. The cabinetmaking work on the inlay is in excellent condition, as is the mechanical part which appears complete and intact in all its fundamental components. Period: 19th Century.
