SCULPTURE OF A YOUNG MAN IN GILDED WOOD MID-17TH CENTURY
Description:
Refined and unique sculpture, made of carved wood and embellished with 24-karat gold leaf. It depicts a young man running, holding a sprig of blown Murano glass cornucopia in his hand, which in turn ends in three arms, each housing a candleholder at its extremities. The sculpture is placed on a white Carrara marble base, finely carved with geometric moldings. Extremely refined, the realistic rendering of the details is noteworthy. The young man is indeed depicted bare-chested, with a garment covering his abdomen and part of his legs. His face, framed by wavy hair, presents delicate features and a serene gaze. A distinctive characteristic is the movement, conveyed by the opening and positioning of the legs, which lend uniqueness to the artwork. This is a sculpture of great taste and refinement, capable of adding a touch of class and antiquity to any environment. Roman manufacture, from the Baroque period, around the mid-17th century.
