SMALL NAPOLEON III CHEST OF DRAWERS - FRANCE - 19TH CENTURY
Description:
Elegant small chest of drawers, Napoleon III period General Description Refined and elegant small chest of drawers from the Napoleon III era (second half of the 19th century), entirely made of precious woods (rosewood, walnut burl rosewood) with rich inlay decorations. The piece of furniture is distinguished by a curved, bulging line on the front and sides, which masterfully reinterprets the dictates of the Transitional style (transition from Louis XV to Louis XVI). Construction and Decorative Features * The Front: Features an opening with two drawers without an apparent crossbar, a cabinetmaking device that allows for the continuous development of the superb inlaid design. * In the center stands out an oval reserve depicting a landscape scene of classical taste: a fortified castle perched on a mountain slope, a rural dwelling in the foreground, and animated figures (a fox and a wolf) masterfully defined with pyrographic shading to give depth and perspective. * The central reserve is flanked by two side panels adorned with fluted vases from which symmetrical floral compositions emerge. * The Sides: Also curved and shaped, they host large inlaid panels with vegetal motifs and sinuous floral scrolls, enclosed within geometric stringing in contrasting wood. * Supports: The furniture stands on four tall, sinuous "en cabriole" legs, clearly inspired by Louis XV, slender and enriched with gilded bronze sabots at the terminal part. Details and Finishes * The Top: The furniture is crowned by a precious marble top in beige/ochre tones, finely shaped along the perimeter, faithfully following the curved shape of the underlying structure. * Bronzework: Adorned with coeval gilded and chased bronze applications, including a finely decorated keyhole escutcheon, ring handles hanging from the drawer, and angular applications in the form of classical pilasters with floral capitals that emphasize the uprights. Condition and Dimensions The furniture displays excellent craftsmanship, both in the choice of inlay woods and in the execution of the grain of the background. It has a warm and luminous patina that enhances the chromatic contrasts of the woods used. Dimensions: 72 x 41 cm, height 87 cm A regular certificate of authenticity with photos will be issued.
