Description:
(QF752)
The antique paintings category, Floral Still Life, features a small 19th-century oil on canvas painting. French Antiques.
The composition depicts a still life of Dahlias flowers in a transparent glass vase, placed on a wooden surface, containing a rich and harmonious bouquet, with a bunch of Violets at its base, a flower much loved in 19th-century French floral painting.
The brushwork is confident and vibrant, with a skillful use of light that highlights the velvety texture of the petals and the transparency of the glass.
Antique paintings with flowers, still life is signed in the lower right by Pierrat, a French painter.
Nicolas Constant Pierrat (1829-1910) trained as an artist studying under Antoine Vollon and Jean-Baptiste-Antoine Guillemet, two renowned painters of the era; his artistic education exposed him to the realistic style and the French tradition of landscape and still life painting.
Pierrat began exhibiting his works at the prestigious Salon des artistes français in 1867 and became a member (sociétaire) in 1883, an important recognition for artists of his time.
He also participated in exhibitions at the Société industrielle de Mulhouse between 1876 and 1908, and at the Salon des artistes strasbourgeois in 1904, as well as an exhibition at the Musée de Mulhouse in 1906.
Several works by Pierrat are preserved in museums, including museum collections in Bucharest, Cambrai, and Mulhouse.
The painting is enhanced by a contemporary gilded frame that increases its decorative and collector's value.
The frame and the oil painting have been professionally and meticulously restored.
