Rare inlaid table with portraits of Renaissance artists
Description:
Exceptional and rare 19th-century round table inlaid with various woods featuring portraits of Renaissance artists.
Diameter 90 cm
Height 77 cm
The tabletop is an authentic masterpiece of cabinetmaking, celebrating the history of Italian art, particularly the Renaissance.
The richness of detail and the masterful use of different wood tones create an extraordinary painterly effect and chiaroscuro.
At the exact center of the table is a circular medallion with a dark background, decorated with floral motifs, enclosed within a star frame.
The intermediate band is the narrative heart of the work. It houses a series of circular medallions with finely executed profile portraits of famous Italian artists. Each portrait is surmounted or accompanied by its respective name inlaid along the edges: Leonardo Da Vinci, Titian, Andrea del Sarto, Paolo Veronese, Raphael, and Correggio. The medallions are supported by a pair of winged mythological creatures and surmounted by two birds in flight.
The space between the portraits is decorated with motifs inspired by Renaissance grotesques: leafy volutes, floral details, expressive mascarons, and dark rectangular plaques depicting small, mirrored swans.
To crown the entire work, the outer perimeter of the table is encircled by a sumptuous continuous floral garland.
This table is a true rarity, a precious testament to 19th-century cabinetmaking excellence that pays homage to the geniuses of the Renaissance, destined for the most refined collections.
