North Italian bronze caster (16th-17th century) - Inkstand with a figure of a youth and telamones.
11 x 11 x h 22 cm.
Lost-wax cast bronze, made in two parts, dark patina.
Inkstand entirely made of lost-wax cast and patinated bronze. The main body, decorated with deep vertical fluting, is surmounted by a standing figure of a youth, rendered with naturalism in the pose and drapery of the garment. At the base, three kneeling figures of telamones support the body of the inkstand, resting on a three-pointed curvilinear base. This type falls within the production of writing desk objects widespread in Northern Italy between the 16th and 17th centuries, intended for study environments and appreciated today in decorative arts collecting.
