Italian sculptor (15th-16th century) - Bust of Christ.
34 x 20 x h 44 cm.
Entirely carved stone, with traces of polychromy.
Bust depicting the face of Christ, attributable to Italian sculptural production between the 15th and 16th centuries. The face, with marked physiognomic features, is framed by thick, wavy locks of hair falling over the shoulders, while the beard is rendered with naturalistic attention. The drapery is resolved in radial folds converging towards the neck, a recurring formal solution in late medieval and Renaissance devotional sculpture. The surface retains traces of original polychromy.
