Oval extendable mahogany Charles X table - France, mid-19th century

French mid-19th century table in Charles X style, made of fine mahogany wood. The oval top, characterized by a warm grain and a refined shellac polish, is extendable with the addition of leaves, making it ideal both as a dining table and for important reception rooms. The edge is embellished with a delicate carved band in a continuous motif, a typical detail of Charles X production, which lends further elegance to the ensemble. The central support consists of a robust turned shaft with a fluted motif that joins a finely carved four-part base. The four curved legs end in sculpted scrolls and are enriched with refined floral decorations and volutes, expression of the French artisanal mastery of the era.
