Antique hand-painted pediment with various tools of a master carpenter whose Patron Saint was Saint Joseph
Description:
Description: Splendid shaped and carved pediment (102 cm long, 30 cm high, 2 cm thick) typical of the upper part of a piece of furniture, for example a wardrobe or a bookcase, made in Italy and dating back to the early 19th century. The pediment is painted with various tools referring to the carpenter's guild, whose patron saint was Saint Joseph. Very likely, due to the chisel and the pot for hot glue, we are looking at either a refined shop sign or the pediment of a master carpenter's furniture. On the right, we find a frame saw, a gimlet, a chisel placed diagonally with a metal blade and a wooden handle, a set square on the left, resting on a tripod, we see a brazier with a handle and a brush protruding: the typical heated container used by carpenters during furniture assembly to keep animal glue (hot glue) fluid, in the center a compass, a mallet, a plane.
