Gilded bronze clock with Adonis late 18th century
Description:
Refined gilded bronze clock, mounted on an ebonized wooden base and covered by a protective glass dome. The clock is decorated with a statuary figure on the left, identifiable as Adonis, the lover of the goddess Venus, with typical hunter attributes; on the right, a hunting dog and a spear are also depicted. Furthermore, at the base of the clock, a scene of clear classical inspiration is represented, in which the reclining Adonis and probably the goddess of the hunt, Diana, waking him with a bow in her hand, can be recognized. The clock face is decorated with triumph motifs and features Roman numerals. The original mechanism of the period is silk-thread suspension, and the chime reproduces the sound of the hours and half-hours; the movement is intact and currently undergoing servicing. This is a clock of great class and elegance, capable of adding a touch of refinement and antiquity to the decor of any room. French manufacture of the Neoclassical period, around the late 18th century.
