MAIOLICA PLAQUE FROM MONTELUPO WITH VIRGIN LATE 17TH CENTURY
Description:
Refined polychrome majolica plaque, rectangular in shape. The plaque, likely for devotional use, depicts the Virgin Mary with clasped hands, veil, and flowing dress. The Virgin is shown crushing the serpent, a symbol of original sin. The frame is also noteworthy, painted and enameled with a guilloche pattern, which adds further refinement to the piece. This is an object of great taste and elegance, capable of bringing a touch of class and antiquity to any setting. The plaque is also in perfect condition of preservation. Tuscan manufacture from the famous Montelupo ceramic workshop, late 17th century. Measurements: H x W x D 31 x 20 x 2cm
