Bronze Sculpture, Davide Calandra
Description:
A refined gilded bronze sculpture. The work depicts the intimate and melancholic face of a young woman. Her gaze is directed downwards, a typical trait of the romantic or symbolist female figures of the era. Her hair is wavy and full, parted in the center. On the right side (left for the viewer), a soft braid falls, resting on her shoulder and chest, while at the back, her hair is partially gathered. The surface modeling reflects Calandra's mature style, influenced by the currents of late Romanticism and the nuances of Scapigliatura and early Liberty. The facial volumes are smooth and delicate.
Davide Calandra, Turin 1856 - 1915
Dimensions: bronze only 45 x 44 cm with marble base 55 cm
