Francesco Tironi (Venice 1745 - Venice 1797) - Venetian landscape with shepherds and herds.
Description:
Francesco Tironi (Venice 1745 - Venice 1797) - Venetian landscape with shepherds and herds. 95 x 130 cm (without frame) - 107 x 140 cm (with frame). Oil on canvas, in a carved, lacquered, and gilded wooden frame. Francesco Tironi, a Venetian painter and etcher, is recognized as one of the last vedutisti active in the Laguna Settecento. Biographical information about him is relatively scarce, but his work is appreciated by collectors for his contribution to 18th-century Venetian views. His style follows the lesson of Francesco Guardi (Venice 1712 - Venice 1793), with a palette that alternates brown tones with sudden flashes of light, creating a more atmospheric than calligraphic effect. This painting is an uncommon example in Tironi's production, which usually focused on lagoon views. Here, the painter turns his gaze to the Venetian countryside, depicting a rural village dominated by a towered building, against the backdrop of a hilly landscape opening onto the plain. Along the bank of a stream, in the foreground, shepherds with sheep and cattle animate the scene. We find Tironi's typical colors and tones, from the bright clouds in the sky to his characteristic small figures, this time dressed as country folk rather than gondoliers. Stylistic comparison with documented works by the artist confidently attributes the canvas to Francesco Tironi. Condition report: Lined canvas.
