German manufacture (late 19th century) - Madame Juliette Récamier reclining on a chaise longue.
13 x 7.5 x h 17 cm.
Polychrome porcelain group depicting Madame Juliette Récamier seated on a chaise longue with a volute backrest and carmine cushion. The figure wears an off-the-shoulder yellow dress with white floral drapery and holds a bouquet of roses. The composition refers to the iconography of the famous Parisian salonnière, made popular among others by Jacques-Louis David's unfinished portrait from 1800, housed at the Louvre in Paris. The modeling is accurate, with careful rendering of the drapery and polychromy.
