Olive wood veneered game table. Tuscany, 18th century.
91 x 45 x h 80 cm.
A game table with a folding top, entirely veneered in olive wood and olive root burl, with rosewood inlay. The closed top features a decorative motif created by the arrangement of root burl grain, with a perimeter frame and a central olive root burl medallion, bordered by thin rosewood inlay. The frieze is veneered with a central panel of straight-grained olive wood, delimited by inlay. The cabriole legs are covered with a herringbone olive wood veneer, with a rosewood fillet along the edge, and terminate in scroll feet with a final point. The folding top rotates and rests crosswise on the table structure, revealing a hidden compartment beneath the resting surface.
