Inlaid extendable dining table. Piacenza, second half of the 18th century.
113 x 113 x h 81 cm, extended 213 x 113 x h 81 cm.
Extendable dining table in solid inlaid walnut, with two sliding extensions under the top and fluted square-section tapered legs, in a Neoclassical style. The square top features an inlay decoration in light woods on a walnut background: an acanthus leaf rosette within a central circular clipeus, vegetal scroll motifs at the corners, and a perimeter threaded frame. The extensions feature inlaid playing card motifs, according to a decorative repertoire common in Northern Italian cabinetmaking of the last quarter of the 18th century. The overall decoration aligns with the Louis XVI taste, with attention to the quality of the inlay and the compositional balance of the top.
Condition report: Good general condition. Signs of use and period patina on the structure. Some minor losses in the inlay.
