Large Venetian mirror in engraved and cut Murano glass, 1950s
Dimensions: : 130 cm,: 83 cm
Description:
An important and refined Venetian mirror made in the Fifties of the twentieth century, following the best Murano tradition, characterized by an execution quality decidedly above average and by rich decoration entirely obtained through hand-worked glass elements. The structure features an elegant, sinuous and scenic shape, embellished with finely cut transparent glass frames, 'torchon' elements, and floral applications of great decorative effect. Particularly commendable is the quality of the floral engravings on the side mirrors and on the upper peak, where a delicate floral vase develops among volutes and foliage in a typically Venetian style. The numerous floral glass applications, some of which made with thin golden inclusions incorporated into the glass mass according to traditional Murano techniques, contribute to creating a refined play of light and reflections. The alternation of transparent glass, engravings, and delicate golden accents gives the ensemble a particular luminosity and considerable decorative richness. Its significant dimensions make it particularly suitable for both classic and contemporary settings, where it can serve as a main decorative element. The original mirrors show slight and widespread oxidations due to age, which testify to their authenticity without compromising their functionality or aesthetic appeal. These signs contribute to giving the piece that charm and flavor that enthusiasts of Venetian mirrors seek. The general state of conservation is very good; only a few very minor marginal chips, compatible with age and use, are noted, as well as a small imperfection on a petal of the top rosette, details of minor visual importance.
