Pair of architectural capricci, Follower of Niccolò Codazzi (Naples, 1642 - Genoa, 1693)
Description:
Follower of Niccolò Codazzi (Naples, 1642 - Genoa, 1693) Pair of fantastic architectural capricci with classical ruins and figures Oils on canvas cm. 47 x 60, framed cm. 55 x 68 Complete details of the work: https://www.antichitacastelbarco.it/it/prodotto/nicolo--codazzi--coppia-di-capricci-architettonici A suggestive perspective of classical architectural ruins dominates the scene in this beautiful pair of capricci, whose stylistic characteristics appear influenced by the models conceived by Viviano (1604 – 1670) and his son Niccolò Codazzi (1642-1693), who collaborated in his father's studio in Rome before embarking on an independent career. In particular, they are the work of an artist active between the late 17th and early 18th centuries, very close to Niccolò Codazzi's style during the central period of his Roman production, when he used to collaborate with some Bamboccianti painters, who typically included small figures to animate the capricci. After his youth in Naples and his activity in his father's workshop, Niccolò Codazzi, with his Roman period works, began to develop an independent artistic personality, and the present paintings are an excellent example of this process. In his architectural views and inventions, he favors a clear and bright palette, punctuated by deep chiaroscuro contrasts and a decisive volumetric rendering. As for the composition, he reproduces Roman ruins with faithful analysis, or, if imaginatively constructed, they always had to be based on a plan of verisimilitude, with light exposing the monumental ruined architecture, the chipped arches, the corroded walls, leaning against ancient monuments now overgrown with vegetation. Both the canvases and the frames are in good condition, with some signs of age. The pictorial material is excellently preserved. WORK ACCOMPANIED BY PHOTOGRAPHIC CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY ACCORDING TO LAW (FIMA ITALIA). For further information, please contact us.
