Early 20th-century French side table. A Parisian piece of furniture in carved, lacquered, and gilded wood of exceptional quality, signed Sormani. A Louis XVI-style dressing table with a finely hand-painted wooden top featuring floral decorations and a magnificent cupid/cherub in the central medallion (see photo). The lower structure features columns adorned with carved, chiseled, and gilded wooden capitals (see photo). This rare piece of furniture, finished from the center, comes complete with its original working key. The drawer features a unique sliding opening, revealing two side compartments with doors and a central mirror that can be adjusted to various angles (see photo).
The side table is signed on the internal lock by Sormani Paris, 134 Boulevard Haussmann (see photo), the historic location of the Maison Sormani boutique from 1914 until its final closure in 1934. This coffee table, beautifully proportioned and tastefully designed for a bedroom or living room, is ideal for antique dealers and collectors. Structurally sound and solid, it shows minor signs of wear (see photo). Beautifully patinaed, overall in good condition.
