Description:
Splendid and elegant pair of views of Rome, created in tempera on paper applied to canvas, dating to the late 18th century. The works, of very fine execution and rich in miniature details, represent two classic expressions of collecting linked to the Grand Tour phenomenon.
One depicts a "View of the Roman Forum, with the Arch of Septimius Severus, the Column of Phocas and the remains of the Temple of Saturn"; the other, "View of the Tiber with the Basilica of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini".
The masterful use of tempera on paper allows for an airy, clear atmospheric rendering with extremely refined pastel tones, typical of the great vedutisti masters of the Roman school of the late eighteenth century. Both works, in perfect condition, are housed in contemporary frames, gilded with pure gold.
