Pair of maiolica plates with carnation decoration
Dimensions: : 2.7 cm,: 23.7 cm
Description:
Pair of Maiolica Plates with Carnation Decoration. The cavetto features the classic "carnation" decoration, with the flower dominating a long, sinuous stem, executed in vivid polychromy in tones of blue, brown, yellow, red, orange, and green. The central motif is enclosed by a narrow band of interlaced segments alternating with flowering sprigs, which separates it from the tesa, adorned with two opposing floral compositions. Two painted fillets mark the rim, completing the refined composition. Condition: Good; one of the two plates has undergone old restorations to the rim and bottom, as evidenced by the darker greenish coloring documented in the photographic gallery. The "carnation" decoration is one of the distinctive features of 18th-century Faenza production, particularly of the Ferniani Manufactory, active in Faenza since the late 17th century. This motif, inspired by Oriental models and reinterpreted in a local vein, enjoyed great success throughout the peninsula and remains today one of the most elegant expressions of Romagna maiolica.
