Pair of Empire Flambeaux - Claude Galle
Description:
Elegant pair of monumental French Empire-style flambeaux, attributed to the renowned Parisian bronze caster Claude Galle (1759-1815), undisputed master of decorative bronzework in the early 19th century. The candelabra feature a refined female figure in a Neoclassical style, inspired by ancient iconography, made of dark patinated bronze and embellished with finely chiselled and gilded details.
The figures support a five-light structure in gilded bronze, characterized by sinuous arms decorated with floral motifs and rich classical ornamental elements. The architectural bases, also decorated with gilt lyre-shaped applications, lend the ensemble great compositional balance and exceptional scenic presence.
The quality of the chiselling, the elegance of the proportions, and the contrast between the darkened patina and the mercury gilding attest to the extremely high level of execution of French manufactories from the Napoleonic and Restoration eras.
A pair of great prestige, ideal for important classical interiors, decorative arts collections, or historic residences.
