Giò Pomodoro (1930–2002) was one of the great Italian sculptors of the second half of the 20th century, the brother of Arnaldo Pomodoro, but with a very different artistic pursuit. He began with informal and sign-material experiences, then moved towards a rigorous abstract geometry, made of tension, void, light, sun, spirals, and spatial structures. Over the years, he developed cycles such as Superfici in tensione (Surfaces in Tension), Contatti (Contacts), Soli (Suns), Archi (Arches), and Spirali (Spirals), often in bronze, marble, and stone, up to monumental works conceived almost as places to inhabit and traverse.
The title "Campo del Possibile Reale" (Field of the Real Possible) suggests the exploration of the infinite configurations that matter and form can assume, starting from rigorous mathematical and geometric rules.
