EMPIRE STYLE OFFICER'S ALARM CLOCK, SECOND HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURY
Description:
Refined gilt bronze officer's alarm clock with a handle. The clock features essential lines, embellished with floral decorations and fantastic animal figures on the front, recalling the typical styles of the Empire period. The dial, protected by glass, shows Arabic and Roman numerals, with gilt bronze hands. The name of the French watchmaker La Vallée is also visible on the dial. There are no other indications on the back, but it is likely that the mechanism is also of French origin. This type of clock was used as an alarm clock by officers, hence the name "ufficialina" (officer's clock), employed in encampments. It is a very tasteful and refined officer's alarm clock, capable of adding a touch of class and antiquity to any setting. French craftsmanship in Empire style, second half of the 19th century.
