Description:
Extraordinary and rare French Louis XV Secretary, made in Paris in the mid-18th century, an authentic testament to the highest Parisian cabinetmaking of the rocaille period. The piece is crafted from precious kingwood, enhanced by refined floral marquetry in kingwood and rosewood, with inlays in various woods expertly combined to create an elegant chromatic and decorative interplay.
The two-door front features a rich inlay composition with naturalistic motifs, framed by shaped reserves typical of the Louis XV taste, while the sides display a valuable geometric interlacing workmanship. The curved line of the piece is further emphasized by arched legs, slender and elegantly connected, finished with gilt-bronze sabots.
The finely chiseled and gilded bronze applications – handles, escutcheons, uprights, and friezes – embellish the ensemble with great craftsmanship, underscoring the luxurious and aristocratic character of the furniture. The top is in brecciated marble, crowned by a pierced gallery in gilded bronze, a distinctive and highly refined element.
A piece of exceptional quality, rare in its type and condition, this secretary represents a masterpiece of 18th-century Parisian cabinetmaking, destined for discerning collectors and prestigious settings.
