Pair of Venetian nightstands veneered in cherry and walnut wood – Late 19th century
Dimensions: : 70 cm,: 40 cm,: 27 cm
Description:
Elegant pair of Venetian nightstands made in the second half of the 19th century, inspired by the sober and refined shapes of Neoclassical and Empire taste prevalent in the Veneto region in the early 19th century. The two pieces of furniture are striking for the harmony of their proportions and the quality of the veneer, characterized by a refined geometric composition in cherry and walnut wood, embellished with burl borders and thin fillets in a darker essence, probably rosewood. The structure is enhanced by elegant mirrored panels that highlight the natural grain of the wood. The clean lines are particularly interesting: the absence of redundant decorative elements and the presence of simple molded frames recall a typically Venetian tradition, in which the balance of proportions and the quality of materials prevail over ornamentation. Each nightstand is equipped with two practical drawers with metal knobs (recently replaced). Their compact size makes them easily placeable either next to a bed or as small side tables in classic or contemporary settings. The work is presented in excellent state of conservation. The furniture has been restored respecting its authenticity and shows only minimal conservative interventions and small replacements compatible with its age and use over time. Dimensions: Width: 40 cm Depth: 27 cm Height: 70 cm A particularly pleasing pair of nightstands, capable of combining elegance, functionality, and quality of execution, an expression of the late 19th-century Venetian cabinetmaking tradition.
