The painting clearly shows characteristics linked to the Roman veduta tradition of the 18th century, and in particular to the works of Paolo Anesi (Rome 1697 - 1773), one of the artists most appreciated by Grand Tour travelers, especially the English, as well as being in high demand to enrich already important Roman collections.
His stylistic imprint brilliantly combines the optical clarity of Van Wittel and Lint with the tradition of the ideal landscape made famous by Van Bloemen. In Anesi, however, one perceives a 'romantic' sensibility, reinforced by a peculiar attention to light values, adjacent to the examples of Venetian landscape painting popularized by Marco Ricci and Francesco Zuccarelli.
The ruins of a Roman arch contribute to identifying the territory we are in, evoking the idea of the landscape surrounding the city of Rome, and the course of the Tiber which dictates the balanced overlap of perspective planes, perceptible to the eye through the course of the river itself.
The effect is of pleasant scenic impact, not only for the accuracy with which the landscape is described, but also for the skillful harmony of chromatic and luministic counterpoints.
The scenography, while respecting reality, betrays through atmospheric values a fantasy designed to transfigure the view, reproducing the atmospheric sensibility of light-infused air, evoking a delicate Arcadian emotivity.
The painting is in excellent condition, perfectly restored, accompanied by a pleasant gilded gold leaf frame.
The work, like all our items, is sold with a photographic certificate of authenticity in accordance with the law.
