Salome with the Head of the Baptist, oil on canvas attributed to Elisabetta Sirani (Bologna, 1638-1665)
Description:
Elegant and intense 17th-century interpretation of the subject, attributable to the hand of Elisabetta Sirani or her closest circle, active in Bologna in the mid-17th century. The female figure is rendered with that composed grace, soft modeling, and satin luminosity that characterize Sirani's painting, an heir and original interpreter of the Reni tradition.
The work, executed in oil on canvas, is distinguished by the quality of the drawing, the finesse of the chiaroscuro passages, and the measured but engaged expressive rendition. A significant example of Bolognese female production of the mature Baroque, capable of combining formal elegance and intense narrative sensibility.
Height 100 cm, width 80 cm.
