Pair of school of Bassano canvases in antique frames
Description:
Delightful pair of oil paintings on canvas attributed to the close circle of the Bassano school, specifically Leandro and Francesco da Ponte, painters who were prolific and successful within the family workshop founded by the master Jacopo Bassano. These two canvases depict biblical scenes, one related to the Nativity, in preparation for the extraordinary event, while the other can be identified as the Supper of the Rich Epulone, an interior scene typical of the Bassano masters' work, who often featured them in their studies of interiors with numerous figures, animals, and everyday objects. The paintings are executed with a care for detail and the skilled hand of an artist capable of working in a very small format with numerous details. The colors are vivid and bright, especially in the first painting, compared to the Supper of Epulone, which, with its darker and browner tones, appears less sharp at first glance. The canvases are in excellent condition and framed by beautiful, original, gilded wooden Louis XIV frames. The external measurements of the frame are approximately 28cm x 42cm. A certificate of authenticity is included with the sale.
