Saint Bishop  Translated
Description:
Giovanni Zebellana (Verona, 1457 - c. 1504) – Attributed Carved and painted polychrome wood sculpture, with traces of gilding (dimensions H.80 x W.60 cm). The figure is recognizable by the mitre as a "Saint Bishop", in a frontal and hieratic position, with strong expressiveness, furrowed brow, and slightly open mouth; the cope features a finely worked golden clasp. The work is datable to the last quarter of the fifteenth century and can be attributed to a carving workshop in Verona, a city that excelled at the time for its notable school of wood sculpture. In particular, strong affinities emerge with the production of Giovanni Zebellana (Verona 1457-1504), a skilled wood sculptor who has recently re-emerged after centuries of obscurity.  Translated
