Pair of architectural paintings with genre scenes - Francesco Monti
Description:
Refined pair of paintings depicting two architectural scenes with figures, clearly in a Bolognese style, dating from the first half of the 18th century.
Given the comparisons and indisputable similarities, the works can be attributed with particular certainty to the hand of the Bolognese Francesco Monti, active in the first half of the century in Emilia and Northern Italy.
Of excellent pictorial quality and still on their original canvases, the possibility of the Neapolitan Nunzio Ferraiuoli (naturalized Bolognese) having worked on them in a "double hand" is not excluded.
The very elegant and elongated figures, typical of the production of the famous Gargiulo, known as Micco Spadaro, indeed incline towards this suggestive hypothesis.
The works depict evocative architectural fantasies animated by elegant figures and scenes of everyday life. In the first painting, a majestic monumental interior, structured by arches and columns, hosts figures in conversation and movement, immersed in a theatrical atmosphere of great perspectival depth. The second presents a setting of classical ruins and fantastical architectures, illuminated by intense lighting effects emanating from a large hearth, an element that lends the composition a strong scenographic impact.
From an important private collection, balanced and elegant, the works are accompanied by their antique gilded wooden frames.
A pair of great elegance and prestige, ideal for collectors and representative environments, capable of evoking the scenographic taste and perspectival invention of 18th-century Italian painting.
