A two-body bureau cabinet made in Venice around the 1740s-1750s, particularly prized for its exceptional black lacquer finish with gold decoration featuring typical chinoiserie motifs, embodying the fusion of Venetian cabinetmaking mastery and Eastern influences. The lower section consists of a front with three shaped drawers and a fall-front secretary desk, concealing a series of small drawers and secret compartments. The upper section, with two mirrored doors, opens to reveal a series of compartments and shelves for porcelain and documents. The crest, also decorated in the style of the cabinet, is embellished with a highly refined carving, comparable in quality to the finest contemporary Venetian gilt mirrors. A further distinguishing element is the interior, entirely lacquered and painted to imitate tortoiseshell, an extremely rare feature in Venetian production of the period.
