He was the son of Giuseppe (1788 – 1847), a painter, and Caterina Maccagno. His brother Paolo Emilio was also a painter. Versatile in all painting genres, he dedicated himself to an artistic career, preferring decoration, in which he achieved great success. Another activity he experimented with was that of a restorer; following interventions at the Royal Palace in Turin, in 1858 he was appointed painter and restorer of the royal palaces by King Victor Emmanuel II. He died in 1909. In 1884, he was awarded the gold medal on the occasion of the National Exhibition in Turin. The previous year saw the creation of the large canvas that dominates the grand staircase of Palazzo Cacherano di Bricherasio, commissioned by the widow of Luigi Cacherano di Briccherasio, Teresa Massel di Caserana. "The canvas depicts the death of the young Giorgio III of Cacherano of Envie during the battle of Castelvecchio d'Albenga. He is buried in the Monumental Cemetery of Turin.  Translated
