Polychrome antique maiolica plate, Antonibon manufacture, Bassano
Description:
Antonibon manufacture, Nove di Bassano (Veneto), Mid-18th century circa. 1745-1765 Decorative plate Polychrome maiolica, Ø 34 cm Elegant polychrome maiolica plate characterized by a wavy profile and a slightly undulating molded rim. The surface is covered with a brilliant tin-white glaze on which a refined polychrome floral and phytomorphic decoration develops. The composition features large corollas in rust-red and orange tones, accompanied by green leafy branches and groups of fantastical fruits or stylized plant elements in shades of blue, manganese, and ochre. The decorative scheme, airy and asymmetrical, leaves ample areas of white visible, in keeping with the typical Nove taste of the mid-eighteenth century. The thin blue threading that follows the wavy edge accentuates the elegance of the profile. The plate is attributable to the production of the renowned Antonibon factory in Nove di Bassano, a leading name in 18th-century Venetian ceramics. Under the direction of Pasquale Antonibon (who managed the factory from 1738 to 1775), the factory developed an original decorative language that blended French, Central European, and Oriental influences with the Italian maiolica tradition. The typical Antonibon palette employs olive green, cobalt blue, yellows, and the characteristic ferrous red known in literature as "rosso Antonibon". Condition Generally good condition consistent with the age of the work; normal signs of use and small firing imperfections typical of 18th-century manufacture. ??All our works are accompanied by a detailed certificate of authenticity. ??
