King George III sterling silver basket, Paul Storr, London, 1818
Rectangular shape with a shell and gadroon border, a reeded carrying handle with a laurel wreath cartouche.
Motto: Honi soit qui mal y pense. Evil be to him who evil thinks. Motto of the English Order of the Garter, instituted, according to legendary tradition, by King Edward III of England in honor of his lover, the Countess of Salisbury, who during a ball dropped a garter; the king rushed to pick it up and rebuked the courtiers who were smiling at the episode with these words.
