Venetian painter (19th century) - Venice, view of Campiello delle Chiovere towards the church of S. Rocco and the bell tower of S. Maria Gloriosa dei Frari.
Description:
Venetian painter (19th century) - Venice, view of Campiello delle Chiovere towards the church of S. Rocco and the bell tower of S. Maria Gloriosa dei Frari. 73 x 37 cm (unframed) - 82 x 46 cm (framed). Oil on canvas, in a gilded wooden frame. The view depicts the Campiello delle Chiovere, one of the less frequented corners of Venetian pictorial topography, with a stone wellhead in the foreground and a male figure with a hat crossing the open space. In the background, the dome and bell tower of San Rocco are clearly recognizable, and further to the right, the brick mass of the basilica of the Frari with its Romanesque bell tower. The brushwork is loose and rapid in rendering the vegetation and architectural surfaces, while the midday light is distributed with care in the contrast between the shaded areas of the pavement and the illuminated facades of the buildings. The work is part of the tradition of 19th-century Venetian veduta with a naturalistic imprint. Condition report: Lined canvas. Good condition of the painted surface.
