Rare and important French Oignon Watch, a historical timepiece characterized by its rounded and thick shape, produced mainly between the late 17th and early 18th centuries.

Gilt movement with Egyptian pillars, verge escapement, and hour and quarter repeater function.
Signed "Godde Laisne à Paris".
Engraved silver dial with champlevé technique, Roman numerals, original hands.
Jean Godde L'Aîné (1668-1748) was a renowned French master clockmaker operating in Paris during the reigns of Louis XIV and the Regency. He became a master clockmaker in 1691 and created important works for the French crown, particularly for Louis XIV. He also collaborated with the greatest cabinetmakers and sculptors of the French 18th century. He is known for his prized Boulle and Regency style pendulum clocks. His movements are often signed "jean Godde Laine à Paris or Godde Laisne".
The watch is functional, fully winds down, and strikes the hours and quarters when the pendant is pressed. As the watch is over 300 years old, accuracy is not guaranteed.
The watch is sold with an elegant wooden box and includes a key for winding and regulation.
