Description
Circular top in elm burl, embellished with a very rich inlay of ebony and precious woods. The decoration is organized in concentric bands: at the center, a figured reserve with putti facing each other around a heraldic motif, followed by a garland of grotesques, fantastic creatures, phytomorphic volutes, and cartouches. The perimeter band of the top is underlined by an inlay border with geometric motifs. The support is equally elaborate; a triangular central shaft opens into four carved legs, enriched with carved applications and connected by architectural elements of a classicizing taste. The legs end in carved lion feet. The ensemble clearly recalls the Neo-Renaissance repertoire, very popular in 19th-century Tuscan workshops.
