Walnut burl veneered and rosewood inlaid notary desk - Venice, third quarter of the 18th century.
172 x 80 x h 80 cm.
This is a notary's study desk, entirely veneered with walnut burl in a herringbone pattern, with rosewood inlays defining the panels of the top and front. The apron has a sinuous profile and is articulated with three drawers flanked by a sliding pull-out drawer. The cast bronze handles with double wings are consistent with Venetian production from the third quarter of the 18th century. The slender and well-proportioned cabriole legs end in a pointed foot, in keeping with the Venetian Rococo style.
