Rolo "Living Room" Coffee Table – 19th Century (Ottocento) Object Description: Refined and authentic tripod coffee table from Rolo manufacture (Rolo inlay), dating back to the second half of the 19th century. This splendid piece of furniture embodies the renowned Emilian cabinetmaking tradition, famous for its extraordinary mastery in the art of wood inlay. The square top with chamfered corners is entirely veneered with precious woods (walnut, boxwood, and fruitwoods) creating a wonderful natural chromatic contrast. Central Inlay: Features a superb and detailed geometric-figurative representation of Saint George slaying the dragon, a classic, rare, and visually striking iconographic motif, executed with millimeter precision. Borders: The central decoration is framed by a rich series of reserves and geometric "herringbone" friezes and checkerboard patterns typical of Rolo production, which elegantly continue along the thickness of the frieze under the top. Support: The top is supported by an elegant turned central stem in dark wood, enriched with contrasting inlaid rings, which terminates on a solid and sinuous tripod with curved legs, also embellished on the back with a refined geometric inlay.
