Elegant Lombard Neoclassical Chest of Drawers – Mid-19th Century.
Splendid three-drawer commode from the Lombard region.
The piece combines geometric rigor with very rich inlay decoration, maintaining harmonious proportions and exceptional visual elegance.
Construction and Decorative Details
Structure and Front: The front features three drawers: a narrower upper drawer under the top, decorated with a band of vegetal scrolls and continuous geometric motifs, and two larger lower drawers, visually united by a majestic central oval reserve.
The Inlays: In the center of the front: Inlaid oval medallion depicting a reclining classical allegorical figure, executed with precious woods and finely shaded.
On the upper level: Large central oval reserve containing a rich trophy of period weapons (quiver, arrows, drum, and laurel branches), surrounded by a beautiful fishbone wood pattern (fishbone/quartered veneer).
On the sides and flanks: The flanks echo the refined ornamentation of the front, displaying a large central circular rosette enclosed within geometric frames and foliage motifs in the corners. Corners enriched with bell-shaped inlays and geometric motifs typical of the period.
Supports: The piece is slenderized by four elegant truncated pyramid feet (the classic neoclassical hairpin legs), also entirely inlaid and bordered along the edges.

Woods Used: Walnut, burl walnut, fruitwood veneers to create the chromatic contrasts of the inlays.
Condition: Excellent overall condition. The piece has undergone a conservation restoration that has enhanced its brilliance with spirit and shellac polishing.
