Pair of Empire Flambeaux - Claude Galle
Description:
Elegant pair of monumental French Empire-style flambeaux, attributed to the renowned Parisian bronze maker Claude Galle (1759-1815), an undisputed master of early 19th-century decorative bronzework. The candelabra feature a refined female figure in neoclassical taste, inspired by ancient iconography, made of dark patinated bronze and embellished with finely chased and gilded details.
The figures support a five-light structure in gilded bronze, characterized by sinuous arms decorated with vegetal motifs and rich classical ornamental elements. The architectural bases, also decorated with gilded lyre motifs, lend the ensemble great compositional balance and exceptional scenic presence.
The quality of the chasing, the elegance of the proportions, and the contrast between the dark patina and the mercury gilding testify to the extremely high execution level of French workshops during the Napoleonic era and the Restoration.
A pair of great prestige, ideal for important classical environments, decorative arts collections, or historic residences.
