Morphological and Decorative Features
The pair of sconces stands out for its elegant and symmetrical line, strongly inspired by the classical canons of the Empire style.
The Wall Support (Plate): The fixing base consists of a convex circular plate, richly carved with a radiating acanthus leaf motif, typical of neoclassical decoration.
The Arms: From the central plate extends a main stem, masked by a large lanceolate acanthus leaf, from which three curved arms (lights) branch off. Each arm is entirely carved with an overlapping foliage motif (or garland), which gives dynamism and plasticity to the structure.
The Candle Holders: The arms end with gadrooned and knurled bobeches (drip pans).
State of Preservation and Technical Details
Gilding: The gold leaf gilding has a beautiful antique patina, with a warm antique gold hue.
Small and physiological signs of age are visible, very slight cracks in the wood and small losses of gilding on the most exposed parts – elements that attest to its authenticity and historical charm.
Electrification: The sconces have been electrified at a later date. The electrical wires run externally along the back of the arms, discreetly secured with small metal wires.
