The antique painting category, Landscape Paintings, offered here is an oil on canvas painting from the 19th century.
It is an antique painting, from the 19th century, representing a natural landscape, created with great pictorial sensitivity and attention to detail. The scene depicts an idyllic river landscape, with a stream flowing gently between ancient trees, rocks, and lush vegetation, bathed in a warm and atmospheric light typical of 19th-century Romantic painting.
The work, characterized by harmonious colors and soft brushstrokes, conveys a strong sense of peace and naturalism, evoking the unspoiled beauty of the 19th-century countryside. In the foreground and along the path bordering the stream, several washerwomen can be seen, captured in a moment of daily work.
The work is an oil painting housed in a gilded frame of genuine gold leaf, original and contemporary to the antique painting.
These are antique 19th-century paintings, signed on the bottom right by Lortet, a French landscape painter.
Leberecht Lortet (1828-1901), born to French parents in Heidelberg, Germany, lived in Lyon, France for a long time. A student of Alexandre Calame in Geneva, he exhibited from 1858 at the "Salon de Lyon" and then from 1859 to 1870 at the "Salon Des Artistes Français". He loved to paint mountain landscapes and studied the effect of light on lake water and rocks, as seen in this proposed work. Many works by this artist are preserved and exhibited in various French museums.
The antique frame and the painting have been professionally and meticulously restored.
