Pair of important Louis XVI gilt and carved wood consoles with antique veined alabaster tops.
Description:
Pair of important Louis XVI consoles in gilt and carved wood with antique veined alabaster tops. Central Italy, late 18th century. Dimensions: 95 x 154.5 x 79 cm. The wooden structure features elaborate decorative carvings. The legs display a fluted motif, vegetal ornaments, and a floral ornament set within a peculiar cube-shaped detail. At the top, they are embellished with a bundle of laurel leaves held around the circumference of the leg. At the four corners of the friezes, there are gilt mascarons on the front and sunflowers on the back, all finely carved. The friezes of the consoles boast significant carved detailing with floral motifs and volutes, featuring a mythological ornament in the center depicting a reclining female figure accompanied by a dog. The decoration is completed by a finely carved gilt festoon of flowers that traverses and extends across the entire lower part of the friezes. Finally, the antique veined alabaster top, a precious stone, adds warmth with its veins in amber and reddish-brown tones forming unique geometric patterns.
