Complete details of the painting (click HERE) The work presented, characterized by a refined sacredness, depicts the Archangel Gabriel in the act of offering the supreme announcement to the Virgin, presenting her with the customary white lilies, symbols of purity and chastity: it is a splendid subject, realized with stylistic refinement, probably commissioned for private use and therefore particularly pleasing and easy to place. The Angel takes the likeness of a young man with delicate features, with his finger raised as if to emphasize his revelation, wrapped in a vibrant red drapery and a white robe, with a dark background that emphasizes the figure's movements and the gesture of the hand. The work, characterized by a fluid, vaporous brushstroke and not excessively marked luminosity, denotes a profound attention to the iconography and compositional methods that were still common in late Mannerist Tuscan painting, an extraordinarily successful artistic period which, especially at the turn of the century, saw a succession of an impressive array of leading artistic personalities. In our case, although it is difficult to attribute it to a specific artist, the stylistic features suggest its attribution to a master of the Florentine school, active in the 17th century. The composition is distinguished by intense colors and a particularly lively play of chiaroscuro, emphasized by the intense red of the angel's garments and the glow that catches the angel frontally. Good condition of preservation. Complete with a beautiful antique coffer frame. Painted wood in faux marble finish.
